Introduction
The Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers is offering a course on back-of-book indexing. Basic Book Indexing part I is being offered to those in the information profession and/or publishing industries who have limited knowledge of the art of indexing. The course is designed to have a large practical component, but will also give a strong basis in the theory of indexing.
Venue
The course will be held at Corporate Suites (Building 8), Holmesglen TAFE, Batesford Road, Chadstone.

9:00 am to 4:45 pm, 14 September, 2009

- Indexers in publishing houses
- Editors responsible for indexing
- Editors responsible for assessing indexes compiled by authors or professional indexers

The short course will cover the following topics:
- Introduction to indexing
- Selection of terms
- Headings and subheadings
- Cross references
- Alphabetical arrangement
- Style
- Editing for publication
- Evaluating indexes
- Indexing as a business
Practical exercises will be conducted throughout the course.

Course Fees
Fees (including GST) are $300 per participant ($250 for ANZSI, Society of Editors, and Australian Society of Technical Communicators members), and will include all instruction, course notes, morning and afternoon teas.
